Installation

  1. Plug in your RailDriver controller.
  2. Install the package to an empty folder that you create specifically for this installation (for example, create a folder called RD Trainz on your desktop) Do not install into your Trainz install folder!
  3. On completion, the RailDriver Calibration Tool should run automatically.
  4. Follow the instructions. A calibration file named ModernCalibration.rdm will be created in the folder you set up earlier. Rename this file to modern.rdm
  5. You’ll need to copy MODERN.rdm to your Trainz install folder.

Copy Calibration File

Locate your Trainz Installation Folder

  • Default: C:/Program Files/N3V Games/Trainz Railroad Simulator

In your Trainz install folder:

  1. Open the Resources folder, then TrainzHID.
  2. Copy MODERN.rdm from the folder created earlier into the TrainzHID folder replacing the existing modern.rdm file.

Enable Controller Support

  1. Start Trainz and open Trainz Settings from the launcher.
  2. Check if Enable game controller support is turned on. If not, enable it.
  3. Close the settings window

  • Camera Mode External: RailDriver Button 2
  • Camera Mode Tracking: RailDriver Button 3
  • Camera Mode Roaming: RailDriver Button 4

Other buttons can be customized to your personal preference. Click the checkmark at the bottom right to save your changes.

Start Driving

Click Start Trainz and load your favorite route. Enjoy driving with RailDriver!

Note: DCC/Simple and Cab/Realistic still have different control modes, even when using RailDriver.

Common Problems

No matter how many times I calibrate, the levers don't match the information in Trainz.
First, check in the ’controller’ folder for the Modern.rdm file, and the ’controllers’ folder for ModernCalibration.rdm. Both of these files should be in their respective locations, and the Date Modified lines should match. If these 2 dates do not match, you will need to make a copy of the ModernCalibration.rdm file and rename it to Modern.rdm and place this in the ’controller’ folder. This problem is most common when Trainz is not installed on the default C: Drive and on some Windows 7 setups.
All of the levers work well, but I’m having a hard time getting the throttle to reach 8.
o fix this, you will need to run RDcalibration.exe again, but when calibrating the throttle and you reach the very top/bottom for calibration, move the lever away from the end just a bit. This will give you a bigger window for the 8th throttle notch instead of a single point.
When running a train in DCC mode, the RailDriver isn’t as accurate as using a mouse.
The RailDriver wasn’t designed with DCC mode in mind. While it does work in DCC mode, it functions a bit differently than mouse control and takes some getting used to.
