Software Utilities for X-keys

These optional tools help you configure, test, and manage X-keys devices beyond standard programming. All utilities are free to use.

Trackball LED Utility

Reprogram or toggle the L-Trac’s internal LED under the trackball.

1.) Open the Utility

Launch the Trackball LED Utility.

(If your trackball doesn’t respond, use your keyboard or another mouse to navigate.)

2.) Put the Trackball in Program Mode

Unplug your trackball.

While holding the center button, plug it back into a USB port directly on your computer (not through a hub or extension).

The DPI LED will flash, indicating it's in program mode.

3.) Load the LED Setting File

Go to the File menu and select Import.

Choose one of the two included HEX files:

  • LED_ON.hex – turns the LED on
  • LED_OFF.hex – turns the LED off
4.) Program the Trackball

Go to the Program menu and select Erase / Program / Verify.

Follow the on-screen steps.

5.) Reconnect and Use

Unplug and reconnect the trackball. It will return to normal operation with the new LED setting.

X-keys Macro Recorder

Read programming from X-keys SE USB devices in hardware mode, create new programming files, and write data to onboard memory.
Requirements: Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, or XP

How To Install and Set-up...
1.) Download and Install Macro Recorder

Download and run the installer to set up Macro Recorder on your system

2.) Restart Your Computer

Once the X-key Macro Recorder is installed,restart your computer.

3.) Put X-keys in Programming Mode

Move the programming switch on your X-keys device to the programming position.

Most X-keys devices include a small switch (push button, rocker, or slide) that toggles between operating mode and programming mode located on the side or edge of the unit.

4.) Start the New Hardware Wizard

When Windows detects the device, the “New Hardware Wizard” will appear.

Select “Install from a disk or a different location (Advanced).”

5.) Save in System32 Folder
  • Uncheck Search removable media.
  • Check Include this location.
  • Click Browse and go to: C:\WINDOWS\system32

6.) Continue Installation

Click Next to proceed.

Follow the on-screen steps.

7.) If Asked for Installation Disk

Click OK when prompted.

In the next window, click Browse and go to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

7.) Finish Setup

Click Finish to complete the installation.
